Pursers are required to have STCW’95 qualifications in marine fire-fighting, first aid at sea, sea survival, pre-sea and social responsibility.
This position would be on one of the larger private or charter vessels or passenger ships and ferry operations. You would require a regular visa to travel to the country of operation, after which the boat or company would organize your crew visa.
The position is largely an administrative one, requiring managerial ability combined with strong skills in accounting and computers. Organizing with various contractors, preparing budgets, as well as responsibility for the interior appearance of the vessel are normal duties in this position. A background in hospitality management with boating skills and experience would ideally qualify a candidate. Expect to earn between $4500 and $8000 per month with a 1 month paid leave and travel expenses from and to the boat. You will require good, contactable references.
